Announcing The Greatest Film I’ve Never Seen Blogathon!

Time for a new blogathon!

Recently, there was a Twitter thread asking people what great (or considered “great”) film they had never seen. I thought, what an awesome subject for a blogathon! No matter how much we love films, and no matter how many we have seen, there are always gaps in our film viewing, especially when it comes to the so-called essentials. So I am inviting you to review a film (or films) you’ve never seen before, but felt like you should have seen it by now.

Here are the rules:

I’m going to be extremely flexible when it comes to what falls under the term “greatest.” Sure, you can pick something off of the AFI 100 Greatest American Movies list that you haven’t seen yet, or any other “best of all time” list you like. Critically acclaimed foreign films, art films, avant-garde films, all good. But if there’s a hugely popular film you’ve never seen, or a cult film you’ve missed out on, or you want to finally experience an Ed Wood film to find out why famous filmmakers are so fond of them–any of these topics are acceptable.

I WILL accept duplicate topics, because if there’s more than one person who wants to finally see Citizen Kane or The Shawshank Redemption, or The Big Lebowski, I don’t want them to miss out. I will, however, set a limit of three bloggers per topic.

Don’t feel you have to give a positive review of the film. If it lets you down after all the high expectations, say so. No shaming here!

Any film from any era, any country is eligible. Documentaries and short films are welcome, too!

The blogathon will run Friday, November 16 – Sunday, November 18. You may post any day (or earlier, if you wish).

To claim your topic, please request your choice in the comments section below, or contact me on Twitter (@DebbieVee). Include the name and URL of your blog. Then grab one of the banners below, display it on your blog and link it back to this post.

I am super excited to see what films everyone chooses. I’m sure many of us will be like, REALLY? You’ve never seen THAT film? This should be lots of fun.

Thanks for joining in!

  1. Dear Debbi,

I am so sorry that I haven’t sent my article on “Gone with the Wind” to you. Although I have spent a lot of time working on it, I have been unable to complete, and I know that the blogathon is now officially over. I apologize for being tardy like this. If you still would like my participating article, I know I can finish and post it some time this week. I would still love to participate. I just got overwhelmed by other priorities and incidents. I appreciate your understanding this situation. Just tell me whether you would like me to finish the article. If it’s too late, perhaps I can participate in your next blogathon.

    Yours Hopefully,

    Tiffany Brannan

      1. Dear Debbi,

It’s been several weeks since you hosted this blogathon, and I still haven’t published my article. I feel terribly remiss. Last week, I finished the article. It was completed at WordPress. I just needed to proofread it and add pictures. Unfortunately, I didn’t have internet connection when working on the last part of it. The page froze, and I lost the last thousand words of the article! I haven’t been able to rewrite it due to other obligations. I do hope to finish the article eventually, but it will be too late to really consider it part of your blogathon. I will still link to your blogathon. If you would like me to send you the link when I finish, I will. I’m sorry again for being so late.

        Yours Hopefully,

        Tiffany Brannan
