It’s been quiet here the past month. Thought I’d do an update:
My mother, whose mobility has been declining for years, suddenly declined even more. It was so rapid we were taken by surprise. She cannot get up or walk even with assistance.
We wanted to get her into assisted living, but she was rejected because of the mobility issue.
We got a short-term solution when she was accepted in an acute rehabilitation facility for 10 days. They decided there was little potential for improvement and set her release for last Friday
I wanted to accompany her home in the ambulance they arranged. While stepping up into the ambulance, I caught my foot between the step and bumper and fell back, fracturing two ankle bones.
When I went to the Orthopedic doctor I got a big, heavy cast and the recommendation that I acquire a leg scooter to help me get around.
So this morning on the way to work, the scooter (or, as I like to call it, The Devil’s Contraption) hit a crack in the cement and I fell again.
The good news is the cast seems to have protected the original injury and kept new ones from occurring.
Meanwhile, my sister and I are scrambling to get everything arranged so we can find a good facility that can take care of my mom.
The upshot of all this is I will have to continue this enforced hiatus from the blog for while longer.
My ankle should be healed in time for The Richard Matheson Blogathon in March. I hope to keep to other blogathon commitments before then.
I miss blogging and look forward to resuming in the near future.
I hope it is a comfort knowing the blogging world is waiting for you while you deal with life (with a capital “L”).
Cliche no. 16: It never rains but it pours.
Cliches are based in truth.
Glad to know you are awaiting my return to blogging. 😊
So sorry to hear about your mum and yourself, Debbie. Sending love and best wishes. Hope things improve soon. Take care and take it easy!
Thanks, Maddy.
Two falls in a row shouldn’t happen to anybody. Hope you get better soon.
Thanks. Things still on track for our blogathon! 👍
Get well soon dear Debbie
Thanks so much.
Hope you feel better soon! Prayers for you and your family.
Thank you!
Take care and hope all improves for everyone, Gill
Thanks, Gill.
I have to echo what Patricia said: “It never rains, but what it pours.” Good grief, that is some tough stuff. Take all the time you need, Debbie–hope you heal quickly and your mom has her needs met. 🙏
Thanks, Rebecca.
Oof. This takes the whole “If you do anything, do it 100%!” deal to new levels of reality. Heal up and fingers crossed that your mom is well taken care of.
Thank you, Greg.
Yes, please take care, and best wishes to you and your mom.
Thanks.
Holy cow, I’m so sorry to hear all this! I hope you’ve found a place for your mom by now, and are on the mend yourself. What a terrible time for you. I’m sorry I can’t do anything other than sympathize.
Thanks. We’re still working on it. ☹ The cast comes off in a week and a half. Hoping I don’t need one longer than that.
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear all your bad news! I hope you’re taking good care of yourself, amongst all this stress. Also: Best wishes to your mom.
Thanks so much. Another week and a half at least with the cast. 😑 Still working on getting a place for my mom. Taking longer than we were hoping. Praying this week everything aligns so we can move forward and find the best place for her.
