So excited to announce my first blogathon for 2020!
This time, I am inviting you to write about movies set on, near, in, or under the water.
Rules:
Though the blogathon is called “Out To Sea,” it can be set on or near a river, lake, or any other substantial body of water.
I’m going to be very flexible with this topic. I only ask that there be at least one major scene set on or near a body of water.
Any film, from any country and any era, is eligible.
Since this is a very expansive topic, no duplicates, please.
The blogathon will run from Friday, March 6 – Sunday, March 8. You may post any day, or earlier, if you wish.
To claim your topic, please request your choice in the comments section below, or contact me on Twitter (@DebbieVee). Include the name and URL of your blog. Then grab one of the banners below, display it on your blog and link it back to this post.
Thanks for joining in!

Yes, indeed! Thank you for joining!
I’m in. Put me down for “The Hunt for Red October”…that is if you’ll have me 🙂
Of course! Thanks for participating!
Sweet! Just updated my blog-a-thon page to include it! https://dubsism.com/2020-movie-blog-a-thons/
How about 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)?
Perfect! Thanks for joining!
If I can track down Abandon Ship (1957) again, could I cover that, please? If not, I’ll definitely think of a backup!
Sure! Thanks for joining in!
I’ve been wanting to write about “Titanic” for years. Can you put me down for the 1997 version, as that’s my favorite one? Thanks.
My blog: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood.
It’s yours! Thanks for participating!
Great idea! Debbie, I’m all in with Wake of the Red Witch, 1948. Thanks.

Excellent! Thanks for joining!
Hi Debbie, Happy New Year… Thanks for the invite.. can you add me with What We Did on Our Holiday (2014)?? from Gill at Realweegiemidget Reviews
Certainly! Thanks for participating!
Did love your topic, how could I resist…
Might as well go for the biggie. Let me have JAWS, please!
Yay! Thanks for bringing Bruce the shark to the party!
My blogathon post is now live at: https://moviemovieblogblogii.wordpress.com/2020/03/04/jaws-1975-four-decades-later-it-still-has-bite/
i would love review splash
Great choice! Thanks for joining!
I would love to do “Run Silent, Run Deep” from 1958.
Great! Thanks for participating!
It looks like nobody’s claimed “Lifeboat” yet.
Nope, it’s all yours! Thanks for joining in!
One of my basic faults is making assumptions. I ASSUMED my library had “Lifeboat”. They don’t… Not only that but a search of all the local places that sell used DVDs turned up short too. I have to pick something else. Can i go with Eisenstein’s classic “Battleship Potemkin”? (The library does have this, so I’m clear for the change.)
Certainly! I will update the roster soon.
Hmmm. This blogathon needs more weird and crazy stiff, soooo (flips coin)… The Flesh Eaters (1964) it is. The other choice was The Navy Vs, The Night Monsters, so I guess you’re all lucky? Both films are a bit nuts, though…
I love weird! Thanks for joining!
Sorry but going to have to withdraw from this blogathon. But will be back to read all the entries!
Another great idea for a blogathon! Would any of these movies be eligible for this blogathon?
Sea Prince and the Fire Child
The Sea Gypsies
Until They Sail
The Silence of the Sea
Anchors Aweigh
The first two are fine. Not sure about the other three. If they have at least one significant scene on or near a body of water, they’re O.K., too. Let me know your final pick!
I was looking through my DVR and I found two movies that might work. The first one is a Hallmark film called ‘Honeymoon for One’. On Hallmark Drama’s website, there was one picture where the lead couple are sitting next to a river and another photo where they fish in a river. The other choice is ‘Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken’. This story is about a girl who wants to become a “horse diver” and it takes place in Atlantic City.
The first seems O.K. but not the second one.
Alright, I’ll choose ‘Honeymoon for One’, especially since I will be one of the few participants who talk about Hallmark films. Thanks for letting me join the blogathon!
Debbie – are you accepting previously published posts for this blogathon? I wrote a review of Carol Lynley after she passed away with her appearances in Flood and The Poseidon Adventure, the post has not submitted for a blogathon… could I include this?
Absolutely!
Thanks Debbie! Put me down for A Tribute Carol Lynley’s Roles in Flood (1976) and The Poseidon Adventure (1972).
Hey Debbie,
Great topic, thanks for hosting!
Would love to participate, writing on Dodsworth (1936).
We don’t have to pick a day to post, do we? I try to get them in first day but usually don’t limp in until the last one…

Yes, you can pick any day to post. LOL, I’m just about to upload a post about Dodsworth for another blogathon! But it most certainly qualifies for this one, too. Looking forward to reading your take on it.
Can I tackle Hitchcock’s Lifeboat for The Movie Rat?
You’ve got it! Thanks for joining!
I finally picked my topic: Pleasure Cruise (1933)!
See you at the sea!
Le from Critica Retro
Fantastic! Thanks for participating!
Upaaaaaaaate: One down and pre-posted for the first day, but I’ll add Night Tide (1961) as well for the second day. I’m about halfway done with the review, so you can all do the wave if you like (ha-ha)…
Dear Debbie,
What a great subject! It is so inspiring that I had trouble deciding which film to review. I finally decided on “The Affairs of Cappy Ricks” from 1937. As the title implies, it is about a sea captain, so it has several nautical scenes.
Yours Hopefully,
Tiffany Brannan
You got it! Great to have you join!
Hi there! If it’s not too late, I’d like to join the blogathon and write about Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (1961), the original film, and perhaps a bit about the 1964-68TV series as well! My blog is: John V’s Eclectic Avenue: http://jveclectic.blogspot.com
