Announcing The Out To Sea Blogathon!

So excited to announce my first blogathon for 2020!

This time, I am inviting you to write about movies set on, near, in, or under the water.

Rules:

Though the blogathon is called “Out To Sea,” it can be set on or near a river, lake, or any other substantial body of water.

I’m going to be very flexible with this topic. I only ask that there be at least one major scene set on or near a body of water.

Any film, from any country and any era, is eligible.

Since this is a very expansive topic, no duplicates, please.

The blogathon will run from Friday, March 6 – Sunday, March 8. You may post any day, or earlier, if you wish.

To claim your topic, please request your choice in the comments section below, or contact me on Twitter (@DebbieVee). Include the name and URL of your blog. Then grab one of the banners below, display it on your blog and link it back to this post.

Thanks for joining in!

  1. If I can track down Abandon Ship (1957) again, could I cover that, please? If not, I’ll definitely think of a backup!

  2. I’ve been wanting to write about “Titanic” for years. Can you put me down for the 1997 version, as that’s my favorite one? Thanks.

My blog: In The Good Old Days Of Classic Hollywood.

      1. One of my basic faults is making assumptions. I ASSUMED my library had “Lifeboat”. They don’t… Not only that but a search of all the local places that sell used DVDs turned up short too. I have to pick something else. Can i go with Eisenstein’s classic “Battleship Potemkin”? (The library does have this, so I’m clear for the change.)

  3. Hmmm. This blogathon needs more weird and crazy stiff, soooo (flips coin)… The Flesh Eaters (1964) it is. The other choice was The Navy Vs, The Night Monsters, so I guess you’re all lucky? Both films are a bit nuts, though…

  4. Another great idea for a blogathon! Would any of these movies be eligible for this blogathon?

Sea Prince and the Fire Child
    The Sea Gypsies
    Until They Sail
    The Silence of the Sea
    Anchors Aweigh

    1. The first two are fine. Not sure about the other three. If they have at least one significant scene on or near a body of water, they’re O.K., too. Let me know your final pick!

      1. I was looking through my DVR and I found two movies that might work. The first one is a Hallmark film called ‘Honeymoon for One’. On Hallmark Drama’s website, there was one picture where the lead couple are sitting next to a river and another photo where they fish in a river. The other choice is ‘Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken’. This story is about a girl who wants to become a “horse diver” and it takes place in Atlantic City.

      2. Alright, I’ll choose ‘Honeymoon for One’, especially since I will be one of the few participants who talk about Hallmark films. Thanks for letting me join the blogathon!

  5. Debbie – are you accepting previously published posts for this blogathon? I wrote a review of Carol Lynley after she passed away with her appearances in Flood and The Poseidon Adventure, the post has not submitted for a blogathon… could I include this?

  6. Hey Debbie,

    Great topic, thanks for hosting!

Would love to participate, writing on Dodsworth (1936).

We don’t have to pick a day to post, do we? I try to get them in first day but usually don’t limp in until the last one…

    1. Yes, you can pick any day to post. LOL, I’m just about to upload a post about Dodsworth for another blogathon! But it most certainly qualifies for this one, too. Looking forward to reading your take on it.

  7. Upaaaaaaaate: One down and pre-posted for the first day, but I’ll add Night Tide (1961) as well for the second day. I’m about halfway done with the review, so you can all do the wave if you like (ha-ha)…

  8. Dear Debbie,

What a great subject! It is so inspiring that I had trouble deciding which film to review. I finally decided on “The Affairs of Cappy Ricks” from 1937. As the title implies, it is about a sea captain, so it has several nautical scenes.

    Yours Hopefully,

    Tiffany Brannan
