I am a writer, avid reader and love movies so much I majored in film studies in college.  (I also loved earning a degree watching movies five days a week!)

I was born in Spain when my father was stationed overseas.  I grew up in New York City and currently reside in Miami.  I like the lack of winter but not the addition of hurricane warnings.

My mom is professional astrologer, tarot card reader and author Phyllis Vega.  We co-wrote the book Your Magickal Name.  Growing up in a house with an astrologer and tarot card reader was interesting, to say the least, and I have gained some knowledge by osmosis.  I used to read tarot for my co-workers and bosses until I realized telling your boss things about him he may not want you to know isn’t always the right way to go.

My first passion is fiction writing.  My short story “The Hannukah Invitation” was published by Regency Press in the anthology The Winter Holiday Sampler.

Two more short stories–“Deadman’s Ball” and “Earlobe”–were chosen for REUTS Publications’ anthology, Fairly Twisted Tales for a Horribly Ever After.

I have very eclectic tastes in fiction, movies and TV.  I love genre fiction of all kinds, and am just as likely to have fantasy, horror, YA, historical fiction, sci-fi or romance residing on my Kindle.  I grew up on classic movies and amazed my grandparents by loving old B movies like Westerns and film noir.  I love a good love story and cry at movies even when you’re not supposed to cry.

The title of my blog “Moon In Gemini” comes from the fact that I have the moon in Gemini in my astrological chart.  Gemini is a sign associated with writing and communication.  It’s also a sign associated with people who can’t make up their minds about anything, so don’t be surprised by the variety of subjects that may appear in this blog.

  1. Hi Debbie: Thanks very much for your follow of A Life Examined, which I’ve happily reciprocated! I look forward to keeping in touch with a fellow writer 🙂

    1. Hi, Candace!

I’ve been a tad lax about doing a post on astrology–I’ll get to it, I promise! I plan to have a regular feature where I analyze fictional characters by their sun sign. (I guess the sun sign from what we know of the character.) It’s a game my mom and I have played over the years.

      Thanks for the follow back!

  2. Having lived in England for eleven years, then returning to California, I understand your feelings about winter. However, I too am leery of natural disasters. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I hope you enjoy the following posts. I can’t say I’m a big movie buff, but the oldies get better and better every year.

    1. Hi, Anna! Thanks for stopping by and saying hello! I’ll be posting about a lot of things, not just movies, so hope you find my ramblings interesting.

  3. I am a Gemini and didn’t realise til a couple of weeks ago that it was the sign of Writing and Communication – hopefully I’ve now found my calling! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much! So glad you like it. I took a look at your blog and it looks very interesting. I’m looking forward to more of your posts, too!

  4. Hi Debbie. Thanks for visiting and following my blog. I’m gonna follow you back, as your posts look interesting, plus you seem to know a lot about the latest in pop culture while I’m sadly almost always late to the party. 🙂

I am fascinated by the fact that your mom is a professional astrologer and Tarot card reader. I’ve met lots of people who were into astrology and Tarot but never anyone who made their living from it. I imagine such people would have a really interesting perspective on it’s usefulness in people’s lives. I don’t follow astrology myself, but I do find it a useful tool for creating characters – those board, astrological profiles make a very convenient starting point.

  5. Hello, looks like an interesting blog here, look forward to reading more. I also have my moon in Gemini, AND my ascendant also! Feel free to check out my blog 🙂

  6. Dear Debbie,
Thanks for having such a nice blog for people. I see you are also a great writer. I have started a novel for fun and to practice writing skills – I would be honored if you could drop by sometime to read some of it, and give me some feedback in a comment of e-mail. It will also be covering the nature of some of the things you already know of, and have written about. If you don’t have the time, I understand that completely. -Thanks!
